Donald L. Kosten Obituary

Donald L. Kosten

71, beloved husband of Janice, devoted and loving father to Kelly Holtz (Mike) and Chris Kosten (Jamie), and fun-loving grandpa to Mackenzie, Michael, Alexandra, Samantha (Holtz), and Lola (Kosten) passed into Eternity on August 13, 2014. Don's life was started with very loving parents, Walt and Marge, in Collinsville, Il, mentoring older brother, Harold, and 5 sets of Aunts and Uncles and 8 cousins that were more like brothers and sisters. Reared in God's house, Holy Cross (church and school) and graduated from Drury College in Springfield, MO. Don was employed by Laclede Gas Company where he met and married Janice (43 years ago). In 1973 Don joined his brother in Cincinnati, OH, where they expanded to not only selling but warehousing Baldor Electric Motors. In 1983 Don became District Manager for Baldor Electric Company in Indiana and half of Kentucky. Don sat on the boards of the Premier Capital Corporation (20 years) and the Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA) (17 years). In 1997, Don sold his Rep Business, and then his life really began! A fabulous storyteller, Don loved building things: relationships, buildings, hotels (Dora Hospitality), restaurant (Chester Calloway's), the murphy bed that founded The Bedderway Company, and wood "art"(U of I gallery showing in May, '14). He was given the gift of seeing things and worked very hard to put things together because of this gift! When melanoma was diagnosed in 2009 and took hold in 2012, Don challenged himself to keep busy utilizing every moment to take advantage of and appreciate what God had given him. He couldn't do anything about what was going to happen to him, so he kept busy and continued to accomplish amazing things! He was an ordinary man who lived an extra-ordinary life! We praise God for him and will miss him dearly until we are reunited! We ask that the IU Simon Cancer Center for Dr. Theodore Logan's Melanoma Research be considered. Payable to IU Foundation, mailed to IUF, PO Box 7072, Indianapolis, IN 46207-7072. Or, donations online at http://www.cancer.iu.edu/giving.

Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 15 at New Hope Church, 5307 W. Fairview Rd., Greenwood, IN. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16 at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements: G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, at the Gardens at Olive Branch.
