Charles E. Stimming, Jr.

age 84, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, January 21st. Chuck was the son of the late Charles E. Stimming Sr, and Mary J. (Tucker) Stimming.

Chuck graduated from Cathedral High School in 1949 and from the University of Notre Dame in 1953. Between 1953 and 1955, he served in the United States Army Medical Corps in Korea and Japan.

Chuck worked for Indiana Bell, AT& T, and Ameritech for almost forty years. He worked in a variety of positions in Indianapolis and New York, and retired as Chief Financial Officer of Ameritech in 1993.

Chuck maintained a strong interest in philosophy and theology his entire life. Upon his retirement, he attended Christian Theological Seminary and earned a Masters in Theological Studies in 1997. He was active in Adult Christian Education at St. Pius X and St. Monica's Catholic Church for many years.Chuck played duplicate bridge for over fifty years. He became Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League in 1956 and was President of Central Indiana Bridge Association in the 1950s. He played with the top players in Indianapolis, won numerous sectional and regional tournaments, and enjoyed mentoring newer players to improve their game. Chuck belonged to the Indianapolis Backgammon Association and was recipient of its Top Ten Player award for almost twenty years.

Chuck was a long-time member of the Indianapolis Athletic Club for forty years and served on its Board of Directors for six. He also served on the Boards of Park Tudor School, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the Indiana Repertory Theatre, Indiana Network for Higher Education Ministries, and Our Lady of Grace Monastery.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, January 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, East 86th Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., January 28th at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive, with burial to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Chuck is survived by his wife: Maggie (Pund) Stimming; his daughters Maureen Stimming and Mary Stimming; Mary's children Michael, Kathryn, Paul and Elizabeth Centorcelli; and his sons Joseph Stimming and Christopher Stimming, his wife Erin, and their children: Hopson, Eason, and Wells Stimming. He is predeceased by the children's mother, Anne (Shields) Stimming.
