Dawn Baxter Obituary
48, of Indianapolis, who was given by God on May 21, 1968, was given to God February 6, 2017 following a short illness.
Dawn was a 1988 graduate of North Central High School. She was an active member of Summit Church.
While Dawn was born with spina bifida and cerebral palsy, which left her partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair, she never let that interfere with her enjoyment of interacting with people and working. Dawn volunteered at the Veteran's Hospital when she was in high school and at the Indianapolis Resource Center for Independent Living after she graduated.
Her first paying job was at Golden Rule Insurance Company. Following that, Dawn was a greeter at the Wal-Mart on West 86th Street for eight years. For the past 12 years, she has been an employee at Goodwill Commercial Services doing cleaning work at Ft. Benjamin Harrison.
Dawn loved interacting with family and everyone else she met. She was always eager to help someone in need. She also was an avid sports fan and enjoyed her season tickets to the Colts and Pacers.
Dawn is survived by her parents, Gary and Sally Baxter, Indianapolis; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Kim and Jon Swisher, Mooresville, and Michelle and Mike Mabarak, Charlotte, NC; her nephews, Andy (Brittney) Swisher and Joey (Raina) Swisher, all of Mooresville, and Joshua and Jared Mabarak, Charlotte, NC; her niece, Katie (Dave) Smith, Zionsville; and her great-nieces, Lilly Swisher, and Kylie and Lucy Smith.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 4 - 8 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan - Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. W. Drive. Funeral services will be on Friday, February 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral center. Burial will be in Washington Park North Cemetery. Memorial gifts, if desired, may be made to Friends of Holiday Park, 6363 Spring Mill Road, Indianapolis, IN 46260, where Dawn enjoyed the summer concerts and meeting her extended family there. I will truly miss Dawn; she was such an inspiration, and a joy to be around. Even though she had some physical challenges, she never let those challenges keep her from doing anything she put her mind to. If she missed a church service, or any other function, it was because the venue was not wheel chair accessible, or a family gathering. If she did miss she wanted all the scriptures/notes from that meeting. The thing that brings a smile to my face is that now she will be able to do things that for her, will be the first time; (walk, run, skip, etc.), WOW!!!!!
Rest in Heaven Dawn.....I miss you already.

Dawn was truly full of life and busy even though she was in her chair. I know she enjoyed going to the different events, aside from church, Summit had, and she made sure if she could be there she was there. Dawn enjoyed football season and was at every home game. She was punctual, opinionated and didn't miss a beat. I will miss her, she was truly an inspirational woman.

Dawn is my second cousin. I'n all the years I've known her I don't ever remember seeing her without a big smile on her face. She was always upbeat and full of energy. The last time we saw each other was so much fun. We all joked around and laughed and laughed. Great memory that I won't forget. Heaven just received a very special addition...

Dawn will truly be missed at Summit Church, we all loved seeing her spark as she rolled around talking and visiting everyone. I admired her desire for Gods word and made sure she wrote down every scripture that was mention so she could refer back to it later, she indeed was a blessing to everyone and we will miss her dearly.
I will keep the family lifted up in my prayers.. God Bless.
