Alice Hofmeister Obituary

Alice Marie Springer Hofmeister 80 years old, of Indianapolis, passed away on January 23, 2005. Born on October 17, 1924 in Chicago, IL, she was the only child of Herbert and Flossie Springer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Edward E. Hofmeister. Mrs. Hofmeister, a convert to the Roman Catholic Church, was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Traditional Catholic Church. She exemplified the church's teachings by living her life as a devoted wife, a loving mother to her 13 children, and a generous benefactor to the needy. Additionally, she volunteered her talents in connection with the Indianapolis Public Schools' literacy program, at a veterans' retirement home; and at political election polling sites. Mrs. Hofmeister was a graduate of Warren Central High School, where she was selected 1st chair violinist, and awarded a music scholarship to Indiana University. Mrs. Hofmeister is survived by daughters, Mrs. Cynthia (Bill) Griset, Cecilia (Peter) Altobelli, Theresa Dowling, Susan (Duke) Hale, Annette (Gregory) Miller, Christine (Robert) Oepen and Cheryl (Patrick) Morello; sons, Edward (Peggy), Frank, Phillip, Paul, Bruce (Sharon), and Robert (Teresa) Hofmeister; 29 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Wilson St. Pierre Greenwood Funeral Home, Greenwood, Indiana, with the rosary at 7 p.m. The Burial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 245 West Broadway, in Greenwood. A graveside service will follow at St. Joseph's Holy Cross Cemetery.
