Lorna "Pinky" Drummond
Died Thursday, September 1, 2011, of endometrial cancer. A lifelong Indianapolis resident, she attended Shortridge High School, graduated from Purdue University, earned her master's degree in social work at Indiana University, and worked for IPS and the Indiana School for the Blind.
Lorna loved being outdoors, hiked in Alaska, on many sections of the AT, in Chile, and through the Grand Canyon. She thoroughly enjoyed the company of her friends in the Hoosier Hikers, and was a regular of the Sunday birding group at Eagle Creek. She was a member of the Indianapolis Sailing Club for many years. Lorna also traveled to China, Africa, Slovakia, and Holland on bike treks.
Lorna embraced her status as an eccentric older woman, and was daring enough to make friends wherever she went. She touched the lives of the casual acquaintance, her friends, and family. We will miss her and hope to carry on her spirit on the trail.
Lorna is survived by her sons Kipp and Ted, her grandson Russell, her companion of 37 years, Vernon "Tram" Tramontini, and her dog Happy.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 7 at 6 p.m., at picnic structure 1 in Broad Ripple Park.
