Don R. Stout

89, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. He was born on February 28, 1923 in Plymouth, IN to the late Harry and Addie Stout. Don served his country in the Air Force during WWII and later earned his BA from Butler University in 1949. He worked for Suburban Motor Freight for 38 years and for the Indy Parks Department for 47 years, "retiring" in 2005. Don was involved with Special Olympics and a Cerebral Palsy group. He coached kids at the Municipal Gardens for 55 years; the new gym has been named after him. He was also a longtime member of Church of the Master. Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, LaVerne Stout; children, Cy (Margie) Stout, Jon (Vickie) Stout, Ron Stout, Carol (Vinton) Knarr, Cheri (John) Oakley, Jill York and Sue (David) Rohrer; 12 grandchildren and 16¾ great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by 1 brother, Jack Stout. Don's family would like to thank the staff of IU Health and Countryside Meadows for the loving care they've provided. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan - Speedway . Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m., also at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitestown.
