He attended Broad Ripple High School, after graduation in 1956; he proudly served his country in the Army as a Military Policeman. In 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Sue Durgan, who preceded him in death, passing away in March 2001.

He spent the majority of his working life in the automotive parts business, where he worked for Spradling Auto Parts & NAPA Auto Parts for over 31 years. He served as President of the Indiana Automotive Maintenance Association in 1972-73. After retirement from NAPA in 1998, he worked part-time for Chartwell Midwest & for several years as a hospice volunteer for Community Hospital.

Mr. Rader spent a great deal of his time enjoying his 42 years of membership in the Fraternity of Freemasons. He devoted much of that time serving as a "Dad" & Advisor helping young men in the Order of DeMolay. He served on the Advisory Council of Millersville Chapter - Order of DeMolay from 1974 to 1983 and was honored to be awarded the Indiana Advisor of the Year for 1980-81.
