Mary Catherine Vinci
91, passed away Jan. 16, 2013 in Indianapolis.
Mary was the youngest of nine children. Her father was born on the island of Sicily and immigrated to the United States with his parents. Mary was raised in Indianapolis, her father owning and operating a commissioned produce house/business. Her life long career was a civil servant with the finance center, U.S. Army, Fort Benjamin Harrison from which she retired. She served as administrative officer to Walter Schuchmann the special assistant to the Commanding General. In this position she had many various experiences and interesting stories. Mary was a longtime contributor to the "Southside Times." She was known throughout the city for her very pointed political letters to the editor and specialty articles on the days of importance such as her annual explanation of St. Patrick's Day.
Mary was often heard to say that she believed that one person could change the world. She believed that if one person acted on their beliefs every day of their lives in the best possible way the world would change for the better. All those left behind who knew Mary can attest to the fact that this was true she changed our lives for the better. She is survived by many nephews, nieces, and loved ones.
We honor her memory.
