John Edgerton Palmer

86, of Noblesville, IN, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away on January 28th after living a long and rich life. He was born October 3, 1926 to Edward and Beulah Palmer, and was brother to Joseph M. Palmer and Robert W. Palmer who preceded him in death. He was a life-long resident of Indiana and he graduated from Shortridge High School, attended Butler University, and after serving in the Navy in World War II in the Pacific, he attended and graduated from Purdue University.

He worked for American States Insurance Company for 35 years, retiring in 1991. John had a passion for music and composed parodies for many retirement parties as well as their United Way programs. During this time he was a teacher of Insurance Classes for the Indiana Insurance Institute. In 1970 he received the National Award from the National Insurance Institute for ranking highest in the country on their course of study.

In 1953 he married the love of his life, Barbara Elliott to whom he was married for 60 years. They resided in Pike Township for 30 years and then in Noblesville until the present. They did extensive traveling visiting many countries around the world, as well as taking many vacation trips to various islands with the entire family. He loved traveling, boating, water skiing, water sports, lake living, golf and spending quality time with his children and three grandchildren. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, St. Luke's United Methodist Church and a member of the church choir. He served on the Pike Township Volunteer Fire Department Board, was a member of Evergreen-Oriental Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Elks, Mohawk Mens Golf Club, and Harbour Trees Golf Club. Surviving is his wife, Barbara; son, Lawrence (Pam) Palmer, daughter Patricia (Tom) Dean; grandchildren Alec and Abby Dean and Elle Palmer; sister-in-law, Miriam Palmer, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 200 West 86th Street on Saturday, February 2nd with calling from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., service at 1:00 p.m., followed by light refreshments.
