Dwayne Marc Brown

was born to Jimmy and Hattie Brown. At a very early age, he demonstrated his considerable intellect and thirst for education. Dwayne earned his Bachelors of Arts degree from Morehouse College in 1984, graduating cum laude. Three years later, he graduated from Columbia Law School.

Admitted to the Bar of Indiana, Dwayne worked as a staff attorney for the Federal Reserve System in Washington D. C. and, then, as Counsel to the Secretary of Indiana. In 1990, Dwayne made history. He became the first African-American and the youngest person elected to statewide office. As the Clerk of the Indiana Supreme Court, Dwayne managed an office with 25 employees and demonstrated that he was a loyal servant of the taxpayers of Indiana by returning to the State over $200,000 in savings from the budget of his office. In 1994, Dwayne also made an unsuccessful primary challenge for the U.S. House of Representative for the 7th Congressional District of the State of Indiana. After leaving his political office, Dwayne started his law practice in Indianapolis.

Dwayne passed away on February 12, 2013. Visitation will be on Friday, February 15 from 5-8 p.m. at Stuart Mortuary Chapel. On Saturday, Febryary 16, there will be a Celebration of Life at 1p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 3500 Graceland Avenue, with entombment at Pines Mausoleum at Crown Hill Cemetery.
