Howard C. Silcox

65, of Indianapolis, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, in Indianapolis.

Howard was a former deputy sheriff in Tennessee and did masonry work. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and volunteered to serve three tours in Vietnam.

After moving to the Indianapolis area in 1987, he became a carpenter and home builder. Howard was a member of the House of Victory Church in Southport. He loved playing his guitar, mimicking Jimmi Hendrix by playing his right-handed guitar with his left hand.

Howard was a devoted father, husband and grandfather.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday in Jubilee Full Gospel Church, 1006 Laurel Drive in Indianapolis, with Dianna Silcox and Pastor Eddie Carr officiating. Calling will be at the church from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Born in Carthage, Tenn., Feb. 9, 1948, Mr. Silcox was the son of Rucker D. Silcox and Ruby Mazille Silcox. He married Dianna C. Smith June 24, 1988. She survives.

Also surviving are sons, Michael Silcox of Columbus, IN, John R. Gimbel Jr. and Bo (Tonya) Gimbel, all of Indianapolis; daughters, Stephanie Silcox-Castro of Indianapolis, IN, Michelle (Eddie Jr.) Carr and Renea (Richard Lawrence) Silcox, all of Indianapolis; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one expected.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Tiffanie Lynn Silcox.
