Bailey Waller "Doc" Mountjoy, Jr.
97, Indianapolis, was born in Indianapolis on April 28, 1915 to Bertha (Caster) and Bailey W. Mountjoy, Sr. and passed away on February 21, 2013. Doc was a kind and generous man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Doc worked at Western Electric where he designed the first waste water treatment plant in the state. Doc had many awards and recognitions including being named a Sagamore of the Wabash (and had a day named in his honor by former Mayor Hudnut) and a Kentucky Colonel, and for his record of donating 42 gallons of blood.
Doc is survived by his children Mary (Ben) Chambers, Wally (Shirley) Mountjoy, Teri (Darryl) Dougherty, Jo (Tucker) Wagoner, Kathleen "Kathy" (Ed) VanVelse and Betsy (Doug) Dougherty; grandchildren Jeff (Laura), Drew, Michael, Paul, Mac (Kristin), Cindy (Evan), Blair (Courtney), Jessica, Tim (Kim), Jackie, Liz (Ric), Brian (Mary), Carla (Ryan), Steve (Brittany), Dan, Sam (fiance Caitlin), Sharon (Rock), Mary, Ben, Rachel and Theresa; great-grandchildren Damian, Michael, Shannin, Zayne, Alex, Monica, Amelia, Dylan, Dyson, Kaiden, Joshua, Joshua, Abrielle, Hadley, Piper, Adam and Lillian. Doc was proceded in death by Marion Wagner Mountjoy, his beloved wife of almost 63 years, sisters Bertha "Sis" and Jean, grandchildren Amanda and Joseph, and great-grandchildren Luke and Liam.
Visitation will be held at Oakley - Hammond Funeral Home Moore and Kirk Irvington Chapel, 5342 E. Washington St., from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 25, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E. 10th St. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
