Dorothy "Dottie" M. Martin Tippins
Age 84, of Greenfield, died Friday, February 22, 2013. Born on February 4, 1929 in Julesburg, Colorado, she was the daughter of Lester and Arilla (Clayton) Martin. She graduated from Julesburg High School. Dottie was married to Neil B. Placek, Fulton H. Tippins and Jim Erwin.
Dottie had a loving, giving, and forgiving heart. She was a versatile, whip smart woman equal to the task at hand. Her vocations changed to fit life's demands. She was in turn a switchboard operator, logging camp cook, executive secretary with 300 WPM typing skills, book keeper, investment trust banker, small business owner and long haul trucker- of which she was most proud. Her handle was "The Duchess." Dottie enjoyed golf, boating, landscaping, interior decorating, gardening and canning. She was very proud of her baby grand piano and played remarkably well. She loved card games and was accomplished at Bridge, but played Euchre the most. For much of the 60's Dottie was well known in central Indiana Women's Professional Bowling Association league play. Dottie loved life, approaching every day or event with zest and bright determination.
Surviving her are her son, Bruce M. (Karen) Placek of Greenfield; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Nadine; and son, Steward E. Placek.
Memorial services will be on Tuesday, February 26, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Vernon Mausoleum in Washington Park East.
