John O. Pasanen
79, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013, surrounded by his family. John was born May 4, 1933, in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, to the late Oscar and Lillian (Ahlberg) Pasanen. After graduating from Fairport Harbor High School, John served in the Navy for 4 years as a radar operator. He went on to study engineering at Purdue University where he was a founding member of the Delta Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. While at Purdue, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Miller Pasanen, to whom he was married for 55 years.
John retired from IBM after 35 years of service and stayed very active during his retirement. He especially enjoyed working as a ranger at Brookshire Golf Club.
John was an avid sports fan and a well-loved coach of many of his sons' football and baseball teams. He was very proud of his Finnish heritage and loved dancing, traveling, playing cards and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife, Carolyn; his children, Greg Pasanen (Betsey) of Cape Coral, Florida, Susan Peek (Joe) of Westfield, Indiana, Cheryl Pasanen of Fishers, Indiana, Brent Pasanen (Chris) of Carmel, Indiana and his greatest joys, his grandchildren, Amy Pasanen Mack (Michael), Eric Pasanen, Cameron Peek, Case Pasanen, Matt Pasanen and great-grandchildren Summer Mack and Tyler Mack.
A celebration of life service will be held at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children's Foundation / Cancer Center. Arrangements by Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel .
