John F. Ferguson
85, of Indianapolis, passed away April 29, 2013. He was born July 25, 1927, to the late Ansel H. and Sara Craver Ferguson. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, John was a graduate of Ben Davis High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.
John was the Supervisor of Maintenance for L.S. Ayres & Co., Glendale Mall, and worked various jobs at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, including the Track and Safety Team. He was a longtime member of the Indianapolis 500 Old Timers Club, and Castleton United Methodist Church. As a 20 year volunteer firefighter for Castleton Fire Dept., he served as Chief from 1974 to 1975, and was Past President of the Indiana Volunteer Fireman's Association.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel , 9900 Allisonville Rd.
John is survived by his loving children, Terry L. Ferguson (Kathy Madison) and Victoria R. Ferguson (Tony Fleming); grandchildren, Melina, Tyler and Casey Ferguson, and Mariah Greer (John); great-grandchildren, Steven, Keegan, Karson, Haley and Aiden; and twin brother, Jim Ferguson (Deloris). His loving wife of 63 years, Melbra W. Ferguson; and a son, John Tracy Ferguson, preceded him in death.
