George Lee Bower Jr.
81, of Gosport, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2013 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 11, 1932 in Clark County, he was the son of George Lee Bower Sr. and Mary D. Bower Sr. George attended Manual High School in Indianapolis. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949-1953 during The Korean War.
He moved to Bloomington to partner with his father in Bower and Sons Heating and Cooling. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #136. He was a lifetime member of the Elks in Bloomington #446.
George enjoyed his family, friends, country home, horses, great danes, golfing, woodworking and hosting race day parties.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary J. Bower of Gosport; his son, George Lee Bower III; daughter-in-law, Jackie Bower III; his daughter, Ellen Bower, all of Greenwood; sisters, Nina Lee and Betty Freeman, both of Bloomington; brother, Bill Bower of Ellettsville; six grandchildren, Jeffery, Mary, Emily, George IV, Richard, Kendall and seven great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard V. Bower, niece, Linda Firpi; nephew, Michael Todd Bower and great-nephew, Andrew Mirer.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013 and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday in The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard , 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in The Funeral Chapel where the Monroe County Veteran's Honor Guard will perform military rites.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Arbor Day Foundation, Trees in Memory, 211 N. 12th St. Lincoln, NE 68508.
