Donald Patrick Considine

Beloved Father and Grandfather, Donald Patrick Considine, passed away surrounded by his family. Don was born on March 18, 1925 in Winona, Minnesota. He was the son of Florence Considine and Ellen Murphy. Donald attended St. Mary University Winona, Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from University of Minnesota. He moved from St. Paul, Minnesota to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1961. For 53 years he divided his time between Indianapolis, LaGrange, Indiana and Naples, Florida.

Don served over four years during World War II in the United States Air Force. He was a trained P-51 fighter pilot. Later, he served 21 months in Germany during the Korean conflict. For twenty years, he was on active duty and in the reserves. He retired as a major.

Don worked for American States Insurance Company for 29 years and retired in 1990 as a vice-president. He held the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter professional insurance designation since 1956.

Don was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, the Retired Officers Association and the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. He enjoyed traveling, golf, playing bridge, and most of all, spending time with his family and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by Lois Ann Considine, Lida Considine and sons, Steve and Tim Considine.

He is survived by his children Susie Smith (Will), Mary Beth Harlow (Jim), Terry, Ellen Simpson (Ken), Bob (Mary), and Matt; his grandchildren Austin, Jessi (Patrick Koch), Colin, Ryan, Patrick Jack Simpson and Nick Hale; and his loving companion, Susan DeWitt. He is also survived by his sister Rita Minogue and his brother Jack Considine.

The family wished to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Taliercio and the staff at St. Vincent's Intensive Care Unit for their care and compassion.

Visitation will be on Monday March, 3, 2014 from 4 until 8 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary - Nora Chapel , 740 E. 86th St. Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday March 4, at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Don's memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 3500 Depauw Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
