Walter W. Sauter

86, of Indianapolis, was born on December 17, 1927 in Indianapolis and passed away on March 18, 2014. He was one of seven children born to the late John and Anna (Stahlberger) Sauter and was a lifelong Southside resident.

Walter married Dolores (Little) Sauter on June 17, 1950 and they were married for 46 years till her passing in June, 1996. He was a retired Indianapolis fire fighter, an Army Veteran and member of the American Legion. He had also worked 50 years as a butcher working at both Buck's Supermarket and Southport Bi-Rite. He was a charter member of St. James and Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

Survivors include, daughter, Judith (Steven) Smith of PA; and sons, John (Veronica) Sauter of IN, Mark (Anne) Sauter of IL, Keith (Joanne) Sauter of IN and Brian (Michelle) Sauter of NC; grandchildren, Kenna Nelson, Kimberly (Mundo) Berona, Kelly (Michael) Wood, Emily Sauter, Jake Sauter, Elizabeth Sauter, and Jonathan Sauter; and two great grandsons, Joshua and Benjamin Walter Berona. Walter was also survived by his loving friend, Nina Ferraro.

He was preceded in death by his six siblings; his wife, Dolores Sauter; and granddaughter, Jessica Sauter.

Visitation will be Friday, March 21, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at G. H.Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home , 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2905 S. Carson Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The or The Christian Appalachian Fund with information available at the funeral home.
