Argyle Gordon Jackson
87 of Indianapolis IN, passed away Wednesday April 9th.
He was the son to the late Ralph and Ada (Wallace) Jackson and was born in Columbia City, Indiana on March 13, 1927. He was President of his class at Larwill High School in Larwill, IN where he was president of his class for four years and remains president to this day.
After graduation from high school he entered the US Army, during WWII, where he played on the military basketball team and traveled extensively in Western USA playing against and with All Stars.
Upon completing military obligations he came home to Indiana where he entered Wabash College, class of 1950, and was inducted into the Wabash Hall of Fame for track, as well as basketball and was a four year letterman. He belonged to Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He set the record in high jump earning the little state championship and was a member of the Men's club and Sphinx Club.
He was a member of the Indianapolis Wabash Alumni Club and after 33 years his team won the Wabash Crock golf event.
After Wabash he joined American Container Mills in the sales department in Chicago and was transferred to Indianapolis. After ten years he formed his own company Hoosier Gasket Corporation. He built this company to world class status where they now have a new large building and multiple employees. The ownership and management of the company was turned over to his family and continues to be led according to the Golden Rule.
He was a long time member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, The Country Club of Indianapolis, Crooked Stick Golf Club and Western Golf Association. He was also a member of Junto and co-founder of the Gasket Fabricators Association.
He was an ardent family man with 5 children: Lisa (Louis) Fender, Jeffrey (Pamela) and Daniel (Susan) Jackson. Eleven grandchildren survive along with his son-in-law Mark Wetzel and daughter-in-law Saundra Jackson. He was predeceased by his wife; Erwilli Jackson and his daughter; Jennifer Wetzel and son Benjamin.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday April 13th at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 3535 Kessler Boulevard North Drive, Indianapolis IN 46222, of which he was a long time member, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm with a memorial service at 4:00 pm.
