I had the enlightening, sometimes baffling, always entertaining pleasure of working with John at WMGK/WPEN in the '80s. It was never his intention to change the way we worked but it happened because...well, because Stonis. If you know, you know. RIP.

It´s been years since I´ve seen Stonis. I never called him John. I´ll always remember his smile, laugh, and love of life. He was a party animal and I say that not in a bad way because he gave off an infectious positive vibe. His form on skates was unique and his lack of rolling off this outside edge was compensated by the power of his push on his inside of his wheels. His style was somewhat awkward and yet he managed to skate faster than most. Stonis was the epitome of fun and there was never a time that I was with him that I didn´t laugh. He brought that out in everyone around him and I always looked forward to skating with him. I know he had to have that same affect on everyone who knew him in all aspects of his life. Here it is many years since I´ve last seen him and I feel fortunate that I knew him during the time that we skated together. There will never be another Stonis.

I lived in the building next to his for 7 years. I saw him just about every morning on my walk to work. There he would be in his beach chair and paper on the sidewalk in front of his building. He was out there even in the winter, bundled up in a coat, sometimes with a blanket. We would smile and say hello or good morning. I did not know his name until now. But I will never forget his face or his kind smile.

John Stonis will be remembered as a legionary Landskater icon. He added a new dimension to everything he attended. Elvis/Madonna
