Butter, Florence  
Florence Butter August 24, 1925 - December 21, 2014 Alameda Florence Leah Butter, 89, of Alameda, California, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 and will be greatly missed. Born August 24, 1925 in Anderson, Indiana, she is predeceased by her parents, Otis and Gladys (Heath) Kopp, of Anderson, Indiana, her sister Emma Lue Kopp of Alameda, California, her late husband, George Nicholis Butter of Alameda, California and her son William Steven Butter of Carmel, Indiana. Florence was a homemaker, more than 50 year member of the League of Women Voters serving on its board and on many committees in Indiana and California. She donated her time to many other nonprofits and volunteered with adult literacy. She loved to cook, sew, garden and enjoyed reading and playing card and board games. She traveled extensively and especially enjoyed vacations and spending time with her family. She is survived by her brother Dr. William Kopp of Anderson, Indiana; her children, Karen Butter of Alameda; Nicholis Butter of Alameda; Kathryn Layman of Pleasanton; Vicki (Richard) Jones of Phoenix, Arizona; Kristina (Philip) Castle of Ben Lomond; five grandchildren, Erika Jones, Jessica Layman, Leslie (Randy) Leyba, Lindsey (James) Ferguson, Hillary Jones; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua Layman, Emily and Devin Ferguson, Quin and Sawyer Leyba. Memorial services will be conducted at 2 pm on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Sunset View Cemetary, 101 Colusa, El Cerrito. Catherine Davidovich Sept. 16, 1916 - Dec. 20, 2014 Resident of San Leandro Catherine Davidovich of San Leandro passed peacefully on Sat., Dec. 20th, 2014. A native of Ohio, born Sept. 16th 1916, Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steve Davidovich and her dear granddaughter Cherish Davidovich. Loving mother to Dr. Theodore and Kathrin Davidovich, Mass, and Steven and Janet Davidovich, San Leandro and beloved grandmother to Catrice and Rik Miles, Nicolas Davidovich and Ashlie Waters, Ilya and Veronica Davidovich. Precious great grandmother to Gavriel, Starrielle, Zelleen and Zalan. Catherine, 98, was one of 14 siblings. She is survived by brother Mickey Ganitch and sister Jeanette Wallen. Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service at the Mission Chapel of the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, on Sat., Dec. 27th at 1pm.

GONZALEZ, GUILLERMO  
Guillermo Gonzalez Feb. 28, 1933 - Dec. 20, 2014 Resident of Union City Guillermo passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones. A dedicated patriarch to his entire family, there wasn't a stranger who met him that didn't eventually call him a good friend. He was born in Juarez, Mexico in 1933. Moving to California in 1962, he began his career in construction that eventually led to his own business. During this time, he trained and employed countless people in construction. Guillermo was a master conversationalist, musician, linguist and historian and was known for his incredible wit and memory that left his listeners laughing and constantly amazed. Guillermo is survived by his son-Jose, daughters- Myrna (Jim) Maldonado, Bertha Villarreal, Grace (Jose) Rodriguez, 12 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to a Rosary Mass on Friday, December 26, 2014 at 7pm and a funeral service on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11am at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 703 C St. Union City. Burial to follow at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward

Susan Mary Searle Sep 16, 1965 – Dec 14, 2014 Resident of Alameda Susan Mary Searle of Alameda, CA passed away suddenly on December on December 14, 2014 at the age of 49. Born on September 16, 1965 in Harrisburg, PA, Susan is survived by her sons Patrick Searle-Bray & Danny Searle-Powers, daughter Madeline Searle-Bray, mother Regina Searle, sister Gwen Bihl, and brothers Geoff & Stephen Searle. She was preceded in death by her father George Searle. Growing up in Camp Hill, PA, Susan later moved to the Philadelphia area and graduated from Swarthmore High School. Susan received her undergraduate and advanced degrees from Colorado and Mills Colleges respectively. Susan worked in the Information Technology field at Sybase, Health Systems Design, Williams-Sonoma, and most recently at Gracenote. She was also active for social causes. She will be remembered for her intellect, adventurous spirit, and cooking skills. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 27th at 11:30AM at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services, 2694 Blanding Avenue in Alameda, CA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter.

Chandler, Justine Jene  
Justine Jene Chandler July 23, 1955 - Dec. 14, 2014 Former Resident of Hayward Jene passed away peacefully in Santa Rosa on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at the age of 59. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and grew up in the Hayward/San Leandro area. Jene was a servant of God and her proudest achievement was serving as a missionary in Indonesia. She loved children, volunteering at several elementary schools, and always had a stray dog in her life, ones no one else would take in. She was a talented artist. Jene had many struggles in life, yet her capacity to love brought her many good friends who loved and cared about her. May she rest in peace. She is survived by her brother Chris Humpert (Melissa), sister Robin Anderson (Curt), nephews Chad Anderson (Traci) and Clae Anderson (Kristina), two great-nephews and a great-niece, as well as her Aunt Sue Sailors (Ron) and family in Tennessee and Colorado. Her older brother Clae Terry died in Vietnam in 1966. Her family will be forever grateful to Jene's Santa Rosa family, Pineapple, Charles, Richard, and Pam; and to Des, and the staff at Redwood Gospel Mission and St. Vincent de Paul. A Home-going service will be held Saturday, December 27, at 1:30pm, at Redwood Gospel Mission, 101 - 6th St., Santa Rosa, Ca., 95401. Collet, Richard C.  
Richard C. Collet June 1, 1918 - Dec. 17, 2014 Kenwood, CA Richard C. Collet died peacefully on Dec. 17, 2014, at his residence in Kenwood, CA. Richard was born June 1, 1918, in Eureka, CA, the son of William C. Collet and Violet M. (Lehr) Collet Carroll. Richard graduated from Stockton High School in 1935. He attended College of the Pacific (now University of the Pacific) from 1937 to 1941, graduating with a BA degree in Civil Engineering. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America as a youth, earning two silver Palms beyond the rank of Eagle Scout. A veteran of WWII and the Korean War, Richard served on active duty as a member of the Navy, and reached the rank of Lt. Commander. Following his naval service, Richard held various engineering and construction positions in the San Francisco Bay Area, culminating in a Vice Presidency at Leslie Salt Co., Newark, CA, from which he retired in December 1979. He was President of Rotary Club International, Newark Chapter, for 1973-1974, and was a sustaining Paul Harris Fellow for the Chapter. Richard was predeceased by his wife Edna (Osterberg), "The Light of His Life", whom he married on Oct. 1, 1950. They lived in Fremont, CA, for over 40 years, making many friends and wonderful memories. Richard is survived by his daughters Susan Collet Byrne (Paul Byrne) and Robin Collet (Bruce Kenner), and his granddaughters Siobhan Byrne and Daina Byrne. Per Richard's wishes, there will be no memorial service. For those wanting to send memorials, please contribute to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.

Donald L. Daily March 3, 1934 - December 17, 2014 Resident of San Leandro Beloved husband of Fay and loving father to Debby Nisleit, Pam Kirley, and Laurie Daily, and father-in-law to Jim Nisleit and Bill Kirley. Don was adored by his grandchildren James and Eric Nisleit; Jillian and Jennifer Sutherlin; and Jocelyn and Alex Kirley. His great grandchildren Matt, Nadia, and Ashlyn Nisleit along with Demitrius Sutherlin will miss his gentle teasing as well. Don also has dozens of "adopted" children who now as adults still refer to him as "Uncle Don" whether they were related or not. Don was raised in Nebraska and served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an avid sportsman, sharing his love of the outdoors, sports and animals with his children and grandchildren. He was also a consummate salesperson having the ability to make everyone feel as if they were a long time friend. Don was always ready with a joke or a smile. Don and Fay were married for 60 years and lived in San Leandro for almost 44 years. They bowled in many leagues throughout the years at Manor Bowl and others around the area. Don peacefully passed away December 17th surrounded by his loving family. His life will be celebrated by family and friends December 27, 2014 at 2 pm at the Castro Valley United Methodist Church 19806 Wisteria St. Castro Valley, CA. Joseph Scalise Jr. June 5, 1934 ~ December 19,2014 Resident of Oakland Joseph Scalise Jr. from Oakland Ca. know as "Joe the Butcher", who owned and worked in his family butcher shop for over 56 years in Alameda, CA. died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday 12-19-2014 at the age of 80. Joe will be remembered as a truly great man who always gave people a helping hand in times of need. A honest man who was devoted to his wife Patricia faithfully for 56 years. Joe lost his oldest son Joey in 1976 but managed to keep his family together and raise 5 wonderful children. Joe was also a devoted Catholic who was a parishioner of Saint Paschal Baylon Church in Oakland for 49 years. Rarely, if ever, missing a Sunday Mass. Joe graduated High School from St. Elizabeth's in Oakland and Graduated from the business school at Armstrong College in Berkeley. Joe served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1953-1957. Joe is survived by his beloved wife Patricia, Daughter Julie (Rich), Sons Jim (Marti), John (Mara) and Patrick (Gemma), and his six grand children, Christina (Chris), Ryan, Gabriella, Dominic, Mateo and Coco.
