Jacobs, Thomas Alan
Thomas Alan Jacobs 1948 ~ 2016 Former Hayward Resident This truly good man was born in Alameda, CA, to Retah and Albert Jacobs. In 1955 the family, including younger sister Diane, moved to a new home in Hayward, CA. Tom (along with, as of 2002, his wife Connie) remained in that home until he and Connie moved to their newly built home in Oakhurst, CA, in 2010. Tom graduated from Mount Eden High and Cal State Hayward (fondly referred to as "Hay-U" by Tom and many other grads). He was a History major whose senior paper centered on the history of Big Basin park. He worked for Alameda County for over 30 years as a computer programmer. His real loves, however, were his long distance walking and bicycling, often to raise money for charity, and playing the French horn. Tom was a devoted member of the East Bay Symphonic Band and the Oakhurst Community Band. Even though diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January, 2011, Tom continued to participate in rehearsals and concerts even while coping with treatments and multiple hospitalizations. He is survived by his wife Connie, his sister and brother-in-law Diane and Michael Smuda and their adult children, all of Woodland, CA, Connie's sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Hedges Capers of La Jolla, CA, cousin Michael Shores and wife Linda of Magalia, CA, along with nieces, nephews, and several other cousins in California and Colorado. Tom's Oakland memorial service will be at St. Cuthbert's Episcopal Church (Mountain & Keller, off 580) at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 25. Reception to follow. If you knew this kind, loyal, courageous man at all, you are most welcome to join us. Donations in remembrance of Tom may be made to the East Bay Symphonic Band or to Hinds Hospice, 2490 West Shaw Ste 101, Fresno CA 93711. View the online memorial for Thomas Alan Jacobs

Victoria Sue Jeung Apr 29, 1936 - May 1, 2016 Resident of El Cerrito Victoria Sue (Yu) Jeung was born in China on April 29, 1936. She passed away quietly on May 1, 2016 after a sudden fall on her 80th birthday. Victoria had been a nurse since 1959, earning her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from University of San Francisco, a Master's in Education from Holy Names College and a Master's in Nursing from USF. She worked at Doctor's Hospital in Pinole and Kaiser Richmond Emergency when it was at 14th and Cutting Blvd, Oak Knoll Naval Hospital and David Grant Hospital at Travis Air Force Base. She taught nursing at Contra Costa College, Los Medanos College, Dominican College and Cal State Hayward. She was certified to teach medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, psychiatry and pharmacology. She was selected by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing to be an item reviewer for the National Council Licensure Examination for nursing in 1993. Victoria taught nursing until she was 71 years old when she decided that she could no longer chase her nursing students up and down various floors and needed to take the elevator. She thought the elevators took too long. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Cushing; son, Stephen Jeung; her son-in-law, Donald Cushing; daughter in-law, Liberty Jeung; and grandsons, Alex Cushing, Blake Cushing and Timothy Jeung; her siblings, Virginia and William; and many nieces and nephews.
