Heather C Martin June 6, 1969 - April 11, 2014 Resident of Alameda Heather Colleen Martin passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014. She grew up in Hacienda Heights, the daughter of Myron Howland and June Huston, and later the daughter of Lupe Fabela Johle. Heather went to UCSD and received a degree in psychology. She met her husband, Mike while in San Diego and they married in 1992. Heather always wanted to be a doctor and in 1996 she received her M.D. from Stony Brook University in New York. She became a Family Practice physician via a residency at San Jose Medical Center (Stanford affiliate) and then went into practice in 1999 at Hayward Family Care. In 1999 she and Mike had twin daughters, Megan and Hannah and moved to Oakland. In 2006 the family moved to their home in Alameda where they've enjoyed living on and participating in Christmas Tree Lane. Heather started having complex health problems in 2007, finally causing her to give up her practice in 2009. She continued to volunteer at the Order of Malta Free Clinic in Oakland as much as her health allowed and loved being able to still provide healthcare to a community who needed it. Heather enjoyed being a mother, traveling, hiking, skiing, and was an avid reader and book club participant. A memorial celebrating the life of Heather Martin will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the Eagles Hall, 2305 Alameda Avenue, Alameda, CA. The service will begin at 1pm followed by light snacks and socializing until about 4pm. There is a one floor walk up to the service (no elevator available). If you wish to make a donation in memory of Heather we suggest the free clinic where Heather volunteered, the Order of Malta Free Clinic, Oakland (2121 Harrison St. Suite 102, Oakland, CA 94612; 510-587-3000) or another of her favorite causes, Doctors Without Borders ( www.doctorswithoutborders.org ).
