Guinee, John F.  
John F. Guinee Dec. 31, 1918 - Dec. 9, 2014 Resident of Hayward John F. Guinee, born Dec. 31, 1918, left us Dec. 9, 2014 to go to to Heaven. John, born and raised in San Francisco, attended USF on a basketball scholarship. After graduation he joined the Navy, serving during WWII and beyond, his service taking him to DC, Australia and the Philippines. After the war John returned to school to get his law degree. In 1955 he moved to Hayward, where he lived the next 59 years. Along the way John got married and started what was to become a very large family. John loved Hayward. He joined the Hayward Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce, serving as the Chamber's president in 1987. Service was John's passion. Among the causes he devoted his energies to were the Hayward Emergency Shelter Program, Hayward Centennial Committee, Mended Hearts Group and Salvation Army. His good works earned him the 2007 City of Hayward Lifetime Award. John's successful legal career began in 1955 and continued for 48 years. He was instrumental in forming the Hayward Attorney's Referral Service and served as president of Alameda County Bar Association. In his leisure time, John was an avid runner. He completed five marathons in far flung places like Paris, Athens, Boston and the Avenue of the Giants. He ran countless more 5Ks, 10Ks and other road races. We have the t-shirts to prove it! As a man of faith, he attended Mass nearly every day at All Saints Church. John is survived by ten children and fifteen grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at All Saints Church in Hayward on Monday, Dec. 15 at 10:30AM, with a Viewing at Sorensen Chapel, 1140 B St., Hayward, on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 4pm (Rosary at 6pm). Guntrum, Burnece E.  
Burnece E. Guntrum September 9, 1917 - Dec. 14, 2014 Resident of San Leandro Burnece Sorby Guntrum of San Leandro CA earned her final wings and passed away Sunday, December 14. 2014 Dearly beloved wife of 51 years of the late John "Jack" Guntrum of San Leandro and sister of Gayle Sorby (deceased). Loving mother of Sandra Guntrum of Waldport, Oregon and Bruce Guntrum of San Leandro, and dear mother-in-law of Catherine Guntrum. Devoted grandmother of Anika Guntrum-de Pompignan, Kryssa Guntrum-Rivas and Jon Guntrum, and great grandmother of Marlowe, Emery, Sloane and Jack. Born in Atwater, Minnesota in 1917, Mrs. Guntrum, known as "Bunny", moved to San Leandro on New Years Eve 1957. She graduated from the University of Minnesota and was a nurse before becoming one of the first eight stewardesses for Northwest Airlines. Her memorabilia are in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC and the Minnesota Historical Museum in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bunny was instrumental in the formation of the Auxiliary to Memorial Hospital in San Leandro. She served as president of many organizations, including East Bay Council of Hospital Volunteers and San Leandro Dance Club. A charter member of the San Leandro Garden Club, Tony Lema Women's Golf Club, Bay-O-Vista Swim and Tennis Club, and St. James Lutheran Church. Member and historian and photographer for the Lake Chabot Women's Golf Club for 26 years. Received special awards for 15-year Girl Scout Leadership and KABL's Citizen of the Day. Building on her stewardess background, Bunny was an avid traveler, having toured the United States extensively and visited over 150 countries. She also enjoyed golfing and swimming. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday Dec. 19, 2014 beginning at 10:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church in San Leandro. Donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or the donor's favorite charity.

Harrington, Lillian  
Lillian Harrington Apr. 8, 1923 - Dec. 9, 2014 San Leandro Lillian Harrington passed away in peace on December 9, 2014, in San Ramon, California. Lillian was born on April 8, 1923, in Oakland California. She married the love of her life, Jack R. Harrington on September 28, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1996. Lillian and Jack moved to San Leandro from Oakland with their eldest son Richard in July of 1953, where they lived for the rest of their lives. They were blessed with two additional children, Jack and Jill. Lillian was a devoted wife and mother. She was the fifth of eight children born to Joe and Nora Senna. Six of her siblings preceded her in death, leaving her only loving sister Vivian Chimpky of Hayward. Lillian is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Rea Harrington, son and daughter-in-law Jack and Carole Harrington and daughter and son-in-law Jill and Todd Richards. Seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild also survive her. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will miss her. The family would especially want to thank her caring, loving and loyal best friend Evelyn Mederos, all the wonderful and caring personnel at Villa San Ramon, and all the Vitas Hospice personnel and their extremely giving organization. Heuer, Patricia Gahagan  
Patricia Gahagan Heuer Resident of Lafayette Patricia Heuer, a 50 year resident of Lafayette, CA passed away December 6, 2014 at the age of 89. Patricia was born in Oakland, CA. Her parents were Garnet G. Gahagan and Cecelia E. Kuhle. Patricia was predeceased by her brother, Gordon G. Gahagan, sister Kathleen G. Shannon and son in-law John Macart. Patricia attended St. Jarlath and St. Elizabeth schools in Oakland, and Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. She was active in the USO as a young woman and began working for the City of Oakland as a lithographer. It was at the City of Oakland that Patricia was introduced by friends to a young police officer, Frank J. Heuer. Patricia and Frank were married for 52 years until Franks death in 2003. Their children are Kathleen Macart of Kauai, HI and Frank "Rick" Heuer (Katherine) of Penn Valley, CA. Patricia enjoyed travel and customizing every detail of the itinerary herself. Frank and Patricia traveled the world together. Patricia also loved gardening and tended her property until she was 85 years old. She was a talented seamstress and avid reader - especially history. In addition to her children, "Nana" will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Allyson Bidwell (Craig), Heather Heuer, Maureen Macart, Frank "Neil" Heuer (Tessa), Hannah Heuer and great-grandchildren Kayley, James, Alana and Malia. Family services will be private.

Hoffman, Hal  
Hal Hoffman Aug. 20, 1918 ~ Dec. 4, 2014 Resident of Albany, CA Long time Albany resident Hal Hoffman passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 4, 2014, at the age of 96. For all of us that were fortunate to be part of his life, we will sincerely miss his warmth, kindness, and sense of humor. He was a remarkable man, and his passing heralds the end of an era, the likes of which we shall never see again. Hal was born in Germany on August 20, 1918, and immigrated to the USA, where he worked in a nursery on Staten Island, New York, until he joined the US Army. He was wounded while fighting in France, and after several stops along the way, ended up in San Francisco at Letterman Hospital where he recovered from his wounds. He studied Horticulture at Cal Poly in San Louis Obispo, then moved to Southern California, where he met the love of his life Mona, who passed away much too soon in 1974. Hal Hoffman's real estate and notary public office was a fixture on Solano Avenue for many years, and he continued to work there until his passing. Hal is survived by his three children Diane, Stan, and Lisa, his three grandchildren Samantha, Aaron, and Lea, as well as numerous family members around the world. All of us were fortunate to have him with us for a good long time, and he was fortunate to have all of you who looked after him so well. We will all gain much comfort from the happy memories that we have of him.

Beverly Jester Jul. 1, 1933 - Dec. 9, 2014 Hayward Beverly was the mother of Mary Fran Jester (Curtis Nakamoto) and Michael Jester (Roberta), grandmother of Lindsey, Neil and Nicholas Jester, sister of Marjorie Iverson (Ernie) and the late Frances Stegge. Beverly graduated from Shanley High School, Fargo, ND and North Dakota State University. She worked at Macys for 25 years. A service will be held at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward on December 20. Johnson, Dorthy  
Dorthy Johnson Nov. 10, 1937 - Dec. 8, 2014 Resident of Oakland, CA Dorthy Johnson passed away peacefully on December 8, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Cal Johnson and her two daughters, Deidre and Carla Johnson. Her kind, generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Dorthy had 37 prosperous years as an employee of the City of Oakland. In 2000, she received a Resolution (No. 75438) from the Oakland City Council which recognized her outstanding service, dedication and leadership to the Manpower Commission, Office of Parks and Recreation and the Office of Personnel Resource Management. In her leisure time, she truly enjoyed reading and completing crossword puzzles. She was an active member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Oakland for over 25 years. She also volunteered with the St. Vincent De Paul Society for several years. Her Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place at 7pm on Thurs., Dec. 18, 2014, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the St. Vincent De Paul Society in memory of Dorthy Lee Johnson, 2245 82nd Ave., Oakland, CA 94605.

Johnson, Marjorie Elizabeth  
MARJORIE ELIZABETH JOHNSON July 02, 1925 - December 12,2014 Resident of Alameda Marjorie Johnson passed away on Friday December 12, 2014 after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Marjorie was born in Albany, New York on July 2, 1925, the eldest of six children of Anna Cline and William Edwards. She was raised in Albany and graduated from both Our Lady Help of Christian Grammar School and from Vincentian Institute from the class of 1943. She declined two college scholarships and began to work to help support her siblings. Marjorie met the love of her life, William D. Johnson, during WWII. She was a member of the AWVS who would type confidential reports for the military and would serve coffee and donuts at the canteen on Saturday nights. Marjorie and William were married on April 24, 1946 and after having five children they moved the family to Alameda, California where their sixth child was born. Marjorie worked at Pac Bell for 25 years. She started at New York Telephone in the Directory Advertising Section. After moving to California she bridged her service and began working at Pacific Bell as an operator and then as a service rep. Marjorie loved to read, go to the movies, attend dances and attend all sporting events. She was a constant spectator to all the sports that her children and grandchildren participated in. Marjorie's Legacy will always be her love of family and faith. Her greatest pleasure was to be with her family. She is survived by her children Donald (Carolyn) Johnson of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter in-law Beth Johnson of Fremont, Marilyn (Peter) Wallenstein of San Carlos, Maureen (Bill) Leitz of Alameda, Michael (Beverly) Johnson of Alameda, Patrick (Michelle) Johnson of San Ramon. She is survived by fifteen grandchildren: Donald and Craig Johnson; Mark, Ben and Joey Johnson; Nicole (Ian) Lopuch and David Wallenstein; Erica (Derek) Bystrom, Buddy Leitz and Jenny (Tyler) Birkey; Geoffrey and Katherine Johnson; Rachael, Erik and Faith Johnson. She is also survived by four great grandchildren: Taylor, Blake and Rhett Bystrom and Brock Birkey. She was precedent by death by her husband William and her son Richard. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Josephs Basilica, 1109 Chestnut St. Alameda on Saturday December 20th at 2:00 pm. For further information please call Harry W. Keturi, Cecelia Louise  
Cecelia Louise Keturi Oct. 22, 1928 - Nov. 26, 2014 Resident of Hayward Cecelia Louise passed away peacefully at Fremont Kaiser hospital on Nov. 26. Louise had a long and rewarding career as an Alameda County Superior Court clerk. A lover of travel, she especially enjoyed cruises to various world destinations. Through her 12 step programs, Louise had close and lasting friendships throughout the Bay Area. Louise was predeceased by her husband Rueben, son Eric and daughter Susan. Surviving family members include daughter Hannah Keturi of Santa Barbara, Theresa Elliot of The Dalles, Oregon, and David Keturi of Hayward. Grandchildren include Joshua Hackett, Andrew and Amanda Keturi, Kevin Rowland, James and William Elliott, and Tina and Jeremy Keturi. A Celebration of Life will take place at the St. Regis Retirement Home, 23950 Mission Blvd., Hayward, on Sat., Dec. 27 at 12:00 noon. Louise will be interred at 4:00 pm at the Chapel of the Chimes.
