Georgia Zakedis
Nov. 9, 1925 - June 16, 2013
Resident of Newark
Georgia Zakedis passed away June 16th peacefully at her home. She was born in the city of Chania on the island of Crete in Greece.
She was a devout Christian who lived out her faith as a missionary in her own country. She started churches in three cities in Greece. She came to the US in 1960 where she met and after two weeks married her husband of 45 years. While in the US she continued ministering working in charities that provided clothing overseas as well as serving as president of Women's Ministries in her church for a time.
Georgia started producing her own radio program some 20 years ago on the Greek Hour of Hope. Then onto the Hellenic Greek American Broadcast and finally on the Greek Voice Station in Tampa, Florida. She produced radio sermonettes in Greek from her home until her late 80's. Her ministry will survive her for some time as her messages are still being broadcast.
She was a loving mother to two children, daughter Kathie and son George. She has four wonderful grandsons that will miss her very much; Luke, Ben, Timothy and Sawyer. We are eternally grateful to have had a loving, godly mother and grandmother.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, from 4-8pm at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. A Chapel Service will begin on Friday, June 21, 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Greek Orthodox Memorial Park in Colma, CA.
