Alfred Gutierrez Nov. 17, 1922 - Feb. 6, 2013 Resident of Oakland, CA Alfred Gutierrez, of Oakland CA, passed away on Feb. 6, 2013 at Kaiser Hospital at the age of 90. He is survived by his daughter Rita and her husband Fred Kaseman of Union City, his brother Manuel Gutierrez of Temecula, CA. beloved grandchildren Andrea Albrecht of Minnesota, Keith Maness of Tracy, CA, and great grand children Jake Maness, Alex Albrecht. He is also survived by a circle of extended family and friends who treasured his artistic talent, his stories and his love of life. Al was drafted in the Army in 1942 and saw combat in the Pacific campaign. During his service in the Pacific campaign, he was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star for bravery under combat conditions. After returning from the war he went to work at Southern Pacific Railroad and worked there for 34 years before he retired. His true passion was his love of sketching and painting. His artistic ability started at the young age of 5 and continued throughout his life.. He also could build anything from a small box to a full set of bedroom furniture. He loved football and was a true 49er faithful. As many of his family and friends know Al was the Ultimate Soldier. In lieu flowers a donation in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project is requested.
