Bernardino "Bernie" Loaisiga
Aug. 8, 1943 - Sept. 1, 2013
Resident of Newark
"Papa Bernie" passed away peacefully on Sunday 9/1 after a seven year battle with Leukemia. He will be missed for his fiery personality, infectious sense of humor and his affectionate and loving ways.
Bernie and his family immigrated to the United States from Nicaragua in 1954 to pursue the American Dream. Growing up in San Francisco, Bernie was an exceptional baseball player and would pick up a bat and glove any chance he could get. He was a hard worker who began working at the tender age of 11 as a paper boy riding his bike up and down the hills of San Francisco. From that day on he worked every day of his life, spending nearly 45 years in the auto-industry, first for General Motors
and then for New United Motors. He was a proud and patriotic American citizen, who was grateful to this country for every opportunity it had given him.
In his free time Bernie enjoyed gardening, restoring his classic cars, watching his granddaughters play sports & searching for treasures at local garage sales. Bernie was an avid Raiders fan and had attended every home game since the team's return to Oakland in 1995. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 49.5 years Yadira Sofia Loaisiga, his two sons Bernie & Jeff (daughter-in-law Rosey,) two granddaughters Emily & Isabelle whom he adored with all his heart and his energetic dog Raider.
