Darrell passed away after a short illness at the age of 92 in the presence of his loving family. Born in Arborville, Nebraska, he was a WWII veteran in the U.S. Navy involved in many historic events, from Pearl Harbor to Guadalcanal where he survived the sinking of his ship, Northampton.
During the war, he married his sweetheart Rose Ann, and later raised a family in Hayward, Ca, eventually residing in Castro Valley for the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his son Dennis Blair and his wife Lynda (Las Vegas, NV), their four children John, David, Robert, and Lisa, his daughter Deborah Walther and her husband Larry (Castro Valley, Ca), their five children Matthew, Robert, John, Steve, and Katrina, his daughter Pamela Clifton and her husband Jay (Eugene, OR), and their two children Jacob and Karin, and thirteen great -grandchildren.
Visitation on Wednesday, April 30th from 6-8:00 pm at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary, 21228 Redwood Road in Castro Valley. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 1 at 2:00 pm also at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary. Burial on Friday, May 2 at 1:30 pm at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine CA
