Edward (Mike) Rueda(1926 - 2014)

Edward Rueda (Mike)
Aug. 22, 1926-March 7, 2014
Resident of Castro Valley
Mike entered peacefully into rest in his home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 87. He was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and as a teen witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the attack, his high school was converted into a military hospital, so he joined the Merchant Marines and served for 2 years. He later graduated from high school in 1946. He then moved to California, where he attended Santa Rosa Junior College. After college, Mike served in the Army from 1948 to 1951. Prior to joining the Merchant Marines, Mike attended a trade school where he learned to operate machinery. As a result of his hard work and skill, he landed a job with Dole Pineapple operating and repairing equipment in the factory. He subsequently returned to California and became a successful Machine Tool Sales Representative, selling large machinery throughout the State.
He was instrumental in the development of the Transfiguration Church in Castro Valley. Additionally he volunteered for several committees of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was their first president at Transfiguration Church. He was very active on the Architectural Committee of the Palomares Hills Homeowners Association.
Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Caroline, daughters Brenda (Glenn), Irene (Dan), Betty (Tom), Loretta (Dan), and Helynn (Bruce), grandchildren Katie (Ian), Kevin, Blake, Allison, Joshua, Ma'lia and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Transfiguration Church, 4000 East Castro Valley Blvd., Castro Valley, CA 94546.
