Ernie passed away Sunday morning, January 20, 2013 at his home in Hayward, surrounded by his seven children. He had lost his loving wife Theresa of 63 years, January 17, 2011. Ernie missed her dearly and now is by her side once again. Ernie was a loving father to his daughter Raellen and 6 sons, Danny, David (Becky), Jimmy, Paul (Colleen), Mark (Lisa), and Kevin. He loved spending time with his 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He played football and baseball at Hayward High School. He was a decorated World War II veteran and married his high school sweetheart on his return from Germany. He was a devout Catholic and lifetime member of All Saints Church in Hayward. "Big Ernie's Burgers" was a mainstay at All Saints Fiesta. Ernie was a charter member of Hayward YMI #76 and a past president. He enjoyed playing YMI softball and chaired the annual Crabfeed for years! He spent many hours volunteering for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. His interests included playing horse shoes at his cabin in Pinecrest, fishing, bowling, golfing, playing cards, watching sports and westerns on TV and visiting his favorite casino! He retired after 35 years of working as a salesman at Moyers Paint in San Lorenzo. A Catholic Rosary service will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday January 31, 2013 at Holy Angels Funeral Center, 1051 Harder Road in Hayward. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30am on Friday February 1, 2013 at All Saints Catholic Church in Hayward followed by a reception at All Saints School Auditorium. Ernie and his big heart and smile will truly be missed by his family and many friends! Please make a donation to the St. Vincent de Paul Society in lieu of flowers.
