HARRIET F. VALENTE

Harriet F. Valente Aug. 19, 1908 - Feb. 23, 2013 Lifelong Hayward Resident Born in the original Hayward Hospital, walked to school along Mission Blvd hoping a friend with a buggy would give them a ride; amazing stories of Hayward passed into memories when Harriet Valente peacefully left us to go Home the 23rd of February at the age of 104 1/2. Harriet (Clarke) Valente was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Clarke, who settled in Hayward in the 1890's. She attended Markham School and graduated from Hayward Union High School Class of 1926. She worked in San Francisco for several years, where she met her husband LeRoy Valente, who passed in 1969. She is survived by her daughters Eleanor Curry of Hayward, and Virginia Brown (Grant) of Frankfort Michigan. Her Grandchildren Alisa Rosillo of Concord, Amy Nunns of Morrow, Ohio, Neil Brown of Virginia Beach, and Ross Brown of Wheaton, Ill. She was blessed with Great Grandchildren Leonardo, Maximillian, Abigail, Charlotte, Grahame, Lily, Grant, Grace, Kyle, and Elliott. She was proceeded in death by her three brothers Francis, Phillip and Robert Clarke and her two faithful companions of the last 16 years Miranda and Gray Kat. An active member of Girl Scouts, she also volunteered at Eden Hospital, was a donor and docent at the McConaghey House, and a long time member of Hayward's iconic Hill and Valley Club. Gardening, sewing and bridge were her passions. She will be remembered as a woman of great strength and amazing desire to live life to its fullest.
