Hortencia passed away early Wednesday morning at home surrounded by family and friends. She suffered from chronic renal disease.
Hortencia was born in Port Arthur, Texas and raised in Coahuila, Mexico. She completed a primary school education and moved to Texas in her early 20s. There, she met Segundo Morones and after 2 weeks of their initial introduction, they began a long marriage of over 40 years until his death in 1992. Hortencia contributed to the family income by working as a factory worker in the local canneries for nearly 20 years. Hortencia's happiness came from entertaining and helping family members, friends, and neighbors in need.
Hortencia is survived by her daughter Mercedes Bartholome of Illinois; sister Estela Sanchez of Union City; granddaughters Carmelita Goldsby of Sacramento and Natalia Bartholome of Illinois; and grandson Samuel Goldsby of Davis. Her beloved siblings who have previously passed away include: Isidro, Alicia, Elida, and Juan of Mexico; and Argentina, Enrique, and Pepita of Texas.
Friends, family, and neighbors are invited to her funeral service and burial on Tuesday, November 27th at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes on Mission Boulevard in Hayward.
