Richard Hammond Petch (Dick) May 17, 1924 - Oct. 5, 2012 Residence of Oakland Richard Hammond Petch (Dick) passed away at his residence on Friday, October 5, 2012 surrounded by the family who loved him. He was born on May 17, 1924 in San Francisco to Alice and Philip Petch and he was a third generation Californian and longtime Oakland resident. Dick was a graduate of University of California Berkeley, served in the armed forces during World War II
, and was employed by the State of California for over 40 years. He was a champion of the environment, beholder of the wilderness, a backpacker and Sierra Club Member, a lifelong competitive runner, aweaver of puns, and a fan of the Oakland A's and Cal Bears. He was preceded in death by beloved wife Lorraine, and brother Philip. He is survived and will be greatly missed by daughters Deborah and Marilyn; granddaughters Tarima and Veronique; and great grandchildren Nigel, Logan, Hazel, and Lukas. The family extends its gratitude to the staff at the Grove at Piedmont Gardens and Vitas Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite environmental organization.
