Shirley Ethel Fryxell

Shirley was born in Motley, Minnesota, the daughter of Ervin and Ethel Coen. She passed away at home on Friday April 25, 2014 of a heart attack with her loving son at her side. Shirley is survived by daughter, Sharon Bentley and her husband Walt, of Visalia, CA, son John Fryxell and his wife Sue, of Guelph, Ontario, and son Dan Fryxell and his wife Sarapee of San Leandro. Her grandchildren include Christine Bentley, Matthew Bentley, Allegra Fryxell and Travis Fryxell and several nieces and nephews as well. Raised in Minnesota, Shirley attended secretarial school and then the University of MN where she met and married Arne Fryxell. Arne and Shirley immediately moved to British Guiana and then Texas for seven years. They subsequently moved to Denver CO in the late 1950s, where Shirley began a successful career as a legal secretary. Shirley then lived in Calgary, Alberta, where she completed her Associates of Arts Degree and worked as a realtor. She relocated to San Diego, where she started her third career in the travel industry. She continued the travel business in Berkeley and Alameda, where she has resided for the last 30 or more years. Shirley enjoyed travel, playing bridge with her friends, gardening and following her favorite teams the 49ers and the Warriors.
