Hortense Rodriguez Obituary

Hortense Rodriguez Resident of Alameda Mar. 15, 1928 - Dec. 19, 2011 Hortense Rodriguez, resident of Alameda, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 with family and friends at her bedside. Hortense was born on March 15, 1928, in San Antonio, TX. At the age of 18 she married her husband, Lawrence Rodriguez in Corpus Christi, TX. In 1962, the family moved to California and settled in Alameda where she dedicated herself as a wife, mother and grandmother. Married for nearly 60 years, she was the devoted wife of Lawrence, mother to Larry (Paula) Rodriguez, Arnold (Elaine) Rodriguez, Robert Rodriguez, Patti (Gary) Ward and Anna (Tom) Montoya. She was a grandmother to 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking for family and friends, rocking her grandchildren, playing Bingo at SPN and fellowship with her St. Barnabas prayer group friends. During her three years as a resident at Alameda Care Center, she made many friends, enjoyed singing in the choir, playing Bingo and holiday festivities with residents and staff. She grew to love and be loved by her wonderful nurses and caregivers. Also survived by her brothers, Alfonso "Poncho" Gonzalez of Castro Valley, Albert (Sharron) Gonzalez of Dallas, TX, many nieces and nephews, loving "Rodriguez family in-laws" and many lifelong friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, her sister, Mary Frances Pena and her brother Abel Gonzalez. A Celebration Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 at 11am at St. Barnabas Church, 1427 Sixth St., Alameda, CA 94501. Internment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward, CA. Donations can be made to St. Barnabas Church in her memory.
