Lloyd Houghtelling passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family members on May 26, 2011, at the age of 83. Lloyd was born in Cozad, Nebraska on June 22, 1927, and grew up in Curtis, Nebraska. Lloyd graduated from the University of Nebraska High School and then enlisted in the Marine Corps. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Margaret who passed away in 1995. Lloyd met Margaret while he was in the Marines stationed at Treasure Island serving in as a Military Policeman. Lloyd and Margaret were married on June 19, 1949.
Lloyd and Margaret owned a small restaurant in Oakland in the late 1940's. Later Lloyd went to work for General Electric in Oakland where he worked for 20 years. When the General Electric plant closed Lloyd started working as a truck driver. Eventually, Lloyd went to work at Thermo Fusion in Hayward, where he worked for 16 years with his son Bob and then retired. Lloyd enjoyed working on projects around the house, watching the Oakland A's, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Lloyd was a wonderful man who cared deeply for his entire family. Lloyd is survived by his children; Andy and his wife Nina of Brentwood, Dennis and his wife Brenda of Hayward, Bob and his wife Joanna of San Lorenzo, Lori and her husband Bruce of Brentwood, grandchildren; Andrew Houghtelling, Michael Houghtelling, Daniel Houghtelling, Chrissy Smith, Jennifer Gomes, Brian Houghtelling, Aimee Houghtelling, Nicole Houghtelling, Bruce Babcock, Jr., Katie Babcock, Stephen Babcock, Sarah Babcock, greatgrandchildren; Owen, Will, Logan, Cody, Bradley, Nathan, Gavin, Alex, Shelby, Sophia.
Visitation for Lloyd will be held on Monday, May 30, 2011 from 4-8 PM at Graham- Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St., Pleasanton, CA. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the mortuary. Burial to follow at Lone Tree Cemetery, 24591 Fairview Ave., Hayward.
