Joseph A. Tocchini

Joseph A. Tocchini April 8, 1935 - July 27, 2010 Resident of Castro Valley Parents Mario and Maude Tocchini preceded Joseph. Originally of Oakland, CA, and shortly after graduating Fremont High School in Oakland, Joseph found the love of his life, Evelyn Matz, and together they were married July 7, 1956. Evelyn was born July 4, 1937 and laid to rest July 22, 2004. She was 67 years old. Joseph is the beloved father of son Joseph Jr., daughters Rhonda Leininger, and Cheri Callison. Missing their papa are grandchildren Christopher, Mark, Annalee, Jessica, Cary (Bear), Steven and Ryan. With greatgrandchildren Jason, Joely, Michael, and Jordynn, Joseph leaves behind a family with heavy hearts. Joseph brought his wife and children to Castro Valley in 1965 where he and Evelyn raised their family. They fell in love with Lake Tahoe, CA and vacationed there yearly; finally buying a cabin that was enjoyed by the entire family on Evelyn's birthday every year. The cabin would burst with loved ones at this annual event. Joseph was a UAW union representative while he worked making automobile batteries for Prestolite in Oakland, CA in the 60's and early 70's. Changing careers, Joseph joined Teamsters Local 70 in Oakland, CA, and was a truck driver for 23 years, the majority of which was with Fleming Foods of Fremont, CA. Joseph retired in 1997. Joseph recently bought a home in Oakdale, CA, drawn by the warm weather, and to the closeness and love he felt for family living nearby. Joseph loved classic and custom automobiles, and as a young man owned a 1951 Ford Victoria that in 1958, was awarded the most beautiful car in America. His good friend Joe Bailon built the Ford. This needs to be mentioned as it was not so much the cars but the lifelong friendships that were created by them, too numerous to count. Joseph loved, as was loved by all of these friends, relatives, and fellow enthusiasts.
