David Cardana Obituary

DAVID ALLEN CARDANA
February 12, 1946 - January 7, 2016
Resident of San Leandro
David Allen Cardana, 69, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016 from complications related to cancer. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Helen (Cunha) Cardana; his daughters and their spouses, Lori and Brand Burfield and Jessica and Russ Thielen; his grandchildren, Sarah, Brooke, Kelly, Logan, and Bronson; his two siblings, Henry Cardana and Elaine Snyder; nieces and nephews; and many close friends. David is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Aileen (Ahlberg) Cardana, and his sister, Sylvia Lessard. Born in Washington D.C. on February 12, 1946, David lived the majority of his life in San Leandro. He and his wife met in elementary school, became high school sweethearts, and both graduated from San Leandro High School in 1963. Upon graduating from Cal State Hayward, he served in the Army Reserve for six years and also began his career as a chemist in the paint industry. David was an avid reader. He loved playing tennis with friends and eventually transitioned to bocce ball. He had a gift of creative writing and humorous poetry and used his talent to commemorate special family events. Known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, he was always interested in their activities, helped them with homework and school projects, and regularly babysat when needed. He remained positive about life, even when faced with medical issues. His most favorite place to visit was their cabin in Sonora. Many memories were made there with family and friends. A private celebration of David Cardana's life will take place at a later date.

Dear Helen, I was shocked to hear of Dave's passing when i came home today from Livermore. Don told me and my heart ached for you. Hard to believe I would lose Kenny in November and now Dave. He was such a fighter and throughout all of his cancers he never complained. He was an amazing person and I was fortunate enough to have been your neighbor for 47 years. I will stop in on my next trip home.

With love.

To Helen and Family, Karen and I wish to express our sincere condolences. We know he is flying with the Angels now.

In his memory may we offer the following personal verse:

Wings lift him high on the thermals of thought as he is free from this earthen bondage,
He has passed through many dawns and sunsets and has now arrived in a peaceful place.

May God bless and keep you all.
