Allen Gerten Obituary
May 26, 1942 - July 12, 2013
Resident of San Ramon
Al passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 12, 2013. He was born in Aurora, Illinois, to the late Madalene and Ambrose Gerten. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Audrey; his beloved son, Allen; his brother-in-law Ron; sisters-in-law Joy, Susan, Trudy, & Mary Gerten; and by his very special nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings Roland, Donald, Leland, Bernice, Alda, & their spouses, as well as his brothers Gerald and Joseph.
Al was a Veteran of the Navy from 1961 to1965, serving on the USS Ranger. He worked in the telephone industry for 40 years and had been enjoying retirement since 2004, going on casino trips, playing cards, and celebrating holidays with family.
Family and friends are invited to Visit on Wednesday, July 17, from 5:00PM to 8:30PM, with a Vigil Service being held at 7:00PM all at the CFCS Central Chapel, 5568 Gibraltar Dr., Pleasanton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 18, at 10:00AM at St. Raymond Penafort Church, 11555 Shannon Ave., Dublin, CA. Committal to follow at the Mausoleum of the Cathedral of Christ the Light, 2121 Harrison St., Oakland.
Donations can be made in Al's name to Hope Hospice, 6377 Clark Ave., Suite 100, Dublin, CA 94568.

Audrey and Allen, I am sorry to hear Al's passing. The years pass so quickly, and our loved ones leave us with the love and wisdom that they have shared. His legacy will continue to live in you and your children. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you. I am glad that I knew Al, only if it was on the job. We will miss him at the annual luncheon.
