Frank Tapia Obituary

FRANK CANELA TAPIA, SR. was born August 26, 1909 in San Leandro to Miguel and Virtuded Tapia, both natives of Spain. During WWII, he worked under contract for the U.S. Navy in Panama repairing naval war ships. In 1946, he married his late wife of 38 years, Beth Irene Tapia; who passed away in 1984. not long after the war, Frank joined the Hayward Police Department as one of the last Deputy Marshals. He also worked as a patrolman for several years until being assigned to the juvenile department until his retirement as Department Head. Frank passed away at home in Hayward, Friday afternoon, October 12, 2001 at the age of 92. Frank is survived by three sons, Frank Tapia, Jr. and his wife, Lori of Hayward, Jim Stevens of Fremont, Kenneth Tapia; his daughters, Beth Scholz and her husband, Bob Scholz of Newark; and Nadine Miller; his brother, Tony Tapia of Hawaii and 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Stevens. Friends are invited to attend a funeral ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at SORENSEN BROS. MORTUARY at 1140 B St. in Hayward. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward. Memorial contributions are preferred to the American Cancer Society and the Red Cross.
