Jack Bollinger Obituary

Jack Walker Bollinger
3/10/1925 - 3/22/2013
Resident of San Leandro
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, friend and mentor, a shining star left us Friday, 3/22/2013; surrounded by his loving family, at 5:05 PM. Jack's kindness, love, good humor and good old fashioned blarney touched every soul he encountered. Born in Seneca, KS, he came to Oakland with his widowed mother and 4 sisters during the Great Depression. Being a member of the Greatest Generation, he enlisted into the Navy at the age of 17 during WW II. Coming home from the war, he married Eleanor, the love of his life in 1947. He spent his career as an electrician in the IBEW local 595. He was in charge of over 300+ electricians during the initial construction of the GM (NUMMI) auto plant in Fremont. In retirement, he enjoyed making stained glass, baking snicker doodles, traveling, teaching others about life on board a warship as a docent on the USS Hornet, volunteering at IBEW 595 and St. Felicitas Church and most of all, spending time with his family.
He leaves behind his wife, Eleanor, daughter Sherry Smiley, sons, Kelley Bollinger, Shawn Bollinger, daughter-in-law Sheila Bollinger, 12 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren.
Please join us for a celebration of his life on Monday April 1, at 10:30AM, at St. Felicitas, 1662 Manor Blvd., San Leandro. He will then be buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd., Hayward. All are invited.
In lieu of flowers, Jack would appreciate donations to: Donations Office, USS Hornet Museum, Pier 3, Alameda Point, PO Box 460, Alameda, CA 94501.
