Luisa Herman Obituary

Luisa May Herman
February 26, 1936 -
April 14, 2013
Resident of San Jose
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Luisa Herman, born in Lompoc, California passed away peacefully in San Jose. She was 77 years old. Luisa joins her husband and love of her life, Nick Herman who died just 12 short weeks ago. She leaves behind her daughters, Robyn (Steve) Barraza, Lisa (Ruben) Martinez and April Souza. Luisa loved and adored her 10 grandchildren; Nick, Sheila, Andy, Erica, Alex, James, Alyssa, RJ, Beth and Vanessa. Luisa also leaves behind her sisters, Shelley Betz and Crys Elliott. Luisa was preceded in death by her husband, Nick, eldest son, Michael and parents.
With four children in grammar school, Luisa pursued her dream to be a college graduate. With perseverance and commitment, she achieved her goal and graduated from Cal State Hayward with her teaching credential. She taught 4th and 5th grades in the Fremont Unified School District for over 30 years. Luisa had many interests including being a member of AAUW, Investment clubs, Bridge clubs and Bowling Leagues but her favorite club was Harrah's. She played Craps like none other and was a valuable teacher to her children and grandchildren on the joys of placing bets. Luisa and Nick traveled extensively around the world and in her final years, these many memories of different countries, cruises and casinos are what kept her in a very peaceful place. Although her dementia robbed her of many things, it never took away her appreciation of all her wonderful years with a devoted husband and loving family. Luisa and Nick always held hands in life, now they hold hands again for eternity.
A Memorial Service will be held for Luisa on Saturday, April 20, 11am at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536.

To the family of Nick and Luisa, I am so sorry to hear of their passing. They were our neighbors for many years and I enjoyed our mailbox conversations so much! Both were kind and sweet and I really enjoyed your dad's sense of humor. In the early years of living here they would come to our street parties and they would talk of their travels and of their grandchildren. Your mom also spoke of your brother and I was so sad that he had passed away. I would have come to the service last month if I had known about it, just to say goodbye. From those of us on De Salle Terrace who remember the Herman's, we offer our sincere condolences. They were wonderful people and lovely neighbors. Sincerely, Judy Adeni
