Paul Lund Obituary

Paul Erwin Lund May 8, 1928 - May 21, 2013 Resident of Hayward Paul Erwin Lund, 85, life long resident of Hayward, CA, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2013. Paul was born on May 8, 1928 to George and Amanda Lund, in the family home built by his father on Montgomery Street in Hayward. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1946, attended University of California Berkeley and Cal State East Bay University, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Paul was employed 30 years at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and retired in 1990. He was a Group Leader at what would become the National Magnetic Fusion Energy Computer Center, responsible for the network interface between remote computing facilities and LLNL's supercomputers. This gave scientists around the world access to the supercomputers at Livermore - a ground breaking concept at that time and model for subsequent U.S. and international supercomputing centers. Following retirement from LLNL, Paul managed The Zazueta Hair Company in Castro Valley for 16 years, alongside his partner Daniel Zazueta. Paul is survived by his husband and loving partner of 41 years, Daniel Zazueta of Hayward, and by family and friends. He is survived by his two children, Mark Steven Lund and Melody (Lund) Towns, and son-in-law Eric Towns. Paul was preceded in death by his former wife, Leola Mosegard, his brother George Peter Lund, and his parents - all of Hayward. Paul remained active with kindergarten and Hayward High schoolmates in producing the "Haypress", a Hayward Union High newsletter for the Classes of 1940's and 1950's. He is a Past President of Dania, the Hayward Chapter of the Danish Grand Lodge. Paul was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
