Donald A. Robarge Obituary
Donald A. Robarge
Nov. 10, 1916-Apr. 7, 2013
Resident of San Lorenzo
Donald Andrew Robarge passed away from Natural Causes on April 7, 2013, At the age of 96.He was born on November 11, 1916 on a dairy farm in Rice Lake, WI to Edward Robarge and Lea Robarge. He was one of seven siblings, three girls and four boys. He decided to escape the long winters of Rice Lake at the age of 18 and migrated to work in the copper mines of Northern Nevada. After a brief stay he continued his journey west to Santa Monica, CA to work as a bus driver. Not satisfied with the Los Angeles area he moved to Northern California to work for Key System Transit in Oakland. This is when he met his wife of 60 years, Bertha Franz. They had three children, Don Jr., John and Mary, in the San Lorenzo area and Don continued his work with Key System Transit for the next 20 years. During this time he became a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and the Boy Scouts of America. He was heavily involved with his two sons in the Boy Scouts and continued his service long after they graduated. During the later years at Key System he began to volunteer with the San Lorenzo Fire Department, and in 1960 at the age of 44 he became a full time member. He worked his way up through the ranks for the next 21 years and retired in 1982 with the position of Assistant Fire Chief. Once he retired he would attend annual Fire Fighter events and stay in touch with his numerous brothers of the Fire Service. Once retired he and Bertha began to travel the United States in their motor home, chasing the 70 degree weather. It was not uncommon for them to be gone from home for up to six weeks at a time. This is when Don got the chance to practice his passion of golf on nearly a daily basis, he kept a journal of every course that he ever played and included his score for good measure. They continued to travel until the mid-1990's when Bertha was diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer Disease, Don spent the next decade faithfully attending to her on a daily basis until she passed in 2004. He is preceded in death by his wife Bertha.
