Doris Elizabeth Mahar Hartin Obituary
Doris Elizabeth Mahar Hartin
Resident of Hayward
Doris Elizabeth Mahar Hartin went home to our loving Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 12, 2013.
Born in Anoka, Minnesota to Delia E. Davenport and Raymond L. Mahar. The family soon moved to North Dakota and in January 1946 Doris married William E. Hartin and to this union eight loving children were born.
Doris created a warm and loving home for her eight children where neighbors, friends and relatives were always welcomed and visited often.
She volunteered many hours in school PTA's and women's auxiliaries at church along with sewing much of the clothes for all eight of her children. She had a wonderful inquisitive mind when it came to anything mechanical. Any home appliance big or small that suddenly quit working was no match for her. Often found sitting on the front room rug with many parts strewn about her, she would figure out what was broken, fix it, and put all the parts back together and always with success.
She was also a loving and warm hearted grandmother to her many grandchildren. As her grandchildren fondly remember her they mention her passion for baseball (Giants and A's), her easy laugh, grilled cheese sandwiches, warm hugs, homemade cookies and playing card games with her grandchildren for hours. Her inquisitive mind was only surpassed by her passion for baseball and one year she was even chosen from amongst many fans to throw out the first pitch at a home game for the Oakland A's. A moment she always treasured.
Doris leaves behind her eight children: Colleen N. (Nickie) Doyal (Jim), Greensboro, N.C.; Rhea T. Hartin Simms, Hayward, Ca.; Regina L. Izatt (Jay), Magalia, Ca.; Jim K. Hartin (Gina), Hayward,; John J. Hartin (Yolanda), Hayward; Shauna D. Clark, Hayward; Donna R. McCaffery (Drew), Hayward; Erin E. Eaton (Darrin), Hayward. Also three siblings Donna Cossette (Andrew), Fargo, N.D.; Dorothy Storsved (Floyd), Moorhead, Minn; and David Mahar (Kay), Hickson, N.D. She also leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and many more loving nieces and nephews. Also her best friend and sister-in-law Helen (Hartin) Coppock, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Lee Mahar , Fargo, N.D.; Clifford Mahar, Kingman, Az.; and Lucy Johnson , Fargo, N.D.
