January 10, 1948, Dorothy married Robert W. Tiernan in a military wedding at Fort Benning, GA. Robert's military career took them across the U.S. and the world, spending three years in postwar Germany. Widowed in 1992, she continued to live independently until her health declined and she relocated to Cortona Park Senior Living Community, Brentwood.
Dorothy was involved in many aspects of her children's lives including being den, Little League, soccer, and room mother. She received the PTA Lifetime Award for her many hours of leadership. Besides family, Dorothy enjoyed annual trips to South Lake Tahoe for Bingo/Keno, participating in activities at the officer's club, playing bridge and bargain shopping.
After raising the children, Dorothy attended Chabot College to be recertified as a dental assistant, a job she held before marriage. Dorothy worked several years at the polls on voting day and was eventually offered a job with the Alameda County Office of Voters Registrar. She quickly rose to a supervisory position which she held for ten years.Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Major Robert W.
