Resident of Hayward
Elodia Torrez Camarena passed away on September 29, 2013 while being watched over by her first grandchild, Jason. She is survived by: her two sisters, Margaret Cowan (San Francisco) and DiAnn Torrez (San Jose) and two brothers, Joseph Torrez (Pittsburg, PA) and Fr. Basil Torrez (Collier, KS); her 7 children, Mary Hittle (Silver City, NM) and her husband Jerry, Margaret, Michael, Matthew and his wife Jeanette, Martin, Martha (all living in Bay Area), and Mark (Leavenworth, KS) and his wife Jeanette; her 4 grandchildren, Jason, Nicholas, Lindsey, and Joshua; and 3 great-grandchildren, Lorenzo, Lisette, and Tyler. Elodia was born in Kanopolis, Kansas on May 6, 1926. She married Dolor Camarena of Salina, Kansas on September 10, 1949. They moved to the Bay Area with several other family members in the early 50's and settled in Hayward where she worked as an accountant for real estate developer Ralph Somers until her first son was born. After all her children enrolled in school, she returned to work as the office manager for Palma Ceia Elementary School in Hayward. After retiring in 1989, she kept busy baby-sitting and making quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elodia or "G-Ma," as she was called by her grandsons, will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her kids, "g-kids," and "g-g-kids."
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Mon. Oct. 7th from the hours of 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm, with a 7:00 pm vigil @ Holy Angels Funeral Ctr, 1051 Harder Rd., Hayward. Funeral Mass will be Tue. Oct. 8th at 10:30 am at St. Clements Catholic Church. Burial to follow to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
