Eugene Anthony Tarrant Obituary
Eugene Anthony Tarrant (Gene) Nov. 21, 1919-Feb.13, 2014 Resident of Berkeley Eugene Anthony Tarrant (Gene) died on Thursday at his home in Berkeley. He was 94 years old. Gene was born near Dallas, Texas, in 1919 and entered the Navy after high school. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He took great pride in his country and believed strongly in its principles. Later in life, he spoke ardently about the need to solve problems without going to war. Gene was happily married to the love of his life, Mary, for 65 years (Mary passed in 2008). Gene and Mary made their home in Berkeley. On his block, he organized a neighborhood watch, newsletter and an annual block party - traditions that continue to this day. Gene's efforts led to a safe, supportive and communal neighborhood and his leadership was honored by the Mayor and City Council of Berkeley. Gene was a member of Downs Memorial United Methodist Church, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and was a volunteer for the Berkeley Police Department and The American Red Cross. Gene lived a long, adventurous life filled with love, and his legacy will affect all those who knew him and many who did not have that pleasure. Services will be held at the Berkeley Yacht Club at 11am on Tuesday the 25th of February..
