George Franco Obituary
George Franco
Aug 7, 1926 - Dec 27, 2012
Resident of Fremont
George Franco of Fremont went home to be with the Lord on Dec 27, 2012. He was born on Aug 7, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Angelo and Giuseppina Pani Franco. He was the youngest of ten siblings. George was a veteran of the US ARMY serving in France and Germany immediately after WWII. He joined the New York City Fire Department in 1949 where he served with distinction until 1974 when he retired. He was awarded the 399th monthly News Hero Award, the Thomas A. Kenny Memorial Medal and Department Medal, and the Thomas E. Crimmins Medal during his FDNY service. However, to George, his biggest achievement in life was the day he accepted Jesus Christ as his personnel Lord and Savior. He was prepared to share his faith with anyone. After moving to Fremont in 1990, he became an active member of the Harbor Light Church of Fremont, where he served as an usher for many years, the Fremont/Tri-city Chapter of the Businessmen's Fellowship, and as a volunteer for the Fremont Senior Center and Fremont Fire Department where he greatly enjoyed the company of his brother fire fighters.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Victoria Fontanarosa Franco, in 1998 and survived by his dear second wife, Anna Dean Franco of Fremont. He is also survived by sons George (Erna) of Jacksonville, FL, Richard (Annamaria) of Bloominggrove, NY, daughters BarbaraAnn Franco of Dublin, CA, and Debi (Rick) Novak of Danville, CA. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
To know George, was to love him. With his vibrant personality and naturally warm nature he had the ability to make people feel like they were family. He truly touched the lives of those he met throughout his life. He will be greatly missed.
