Gilbert Andrew Anda

GILBERT ANDREW ANDA, July 26, 2001. Born February 4, 1923 in Mexico. Dearly beloved husband of Carmen for 54 years; loving father of Eleanor (Larry) Cromwell, Gilbert Anda, Jr. and Michael Anda; adored grandfather of Lisa (Steve) Petty, Michael Anda, Jr., Joseph Anda, Larry (Jill) Cromwell, Christopher Cromwell and Carolyn Cromwell; beloved great grandfather of Nathan Cromwell and Elizabeth Petty; devoted father in law of Debbie Anda. Preceded in death by his parents Agustina and Jose Gilbert De Anda, Gilbert was the last survivor of fourteen brothers and sisters. Gilbert served as a medic in the U.S. Army during WWII and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He then worked as a carpenter for a few years before starting his own successful business as a general contractor with his wife, Carmen, who worked by his side doing paperwork and cleaning the projects he built. He built homes for over 30 years and developed properties throughout San Mateo County. During his retired life he remained active in the church and community giving generously of his time to many charities and causes. He enjoyed entertaining and cooking for his family and friends, as well as spending time with his grandchildren and walking his dog, Lady. To those who loved him, Gil will be remembered as a man strong in faith who was blessed with a wonderful heart. He loved as God commanded, "Love thy neighbor as thy self". His family will forever miss him... he was their hero. Friends may call Monday (TODAY) after 5p.m. and are invited to attend the Vigil , Monday, 7 p.m. at CHAPEL BY THE SEA FUNERAL HOME, 801 Oceana Blvd., Pacifica, and the Funeral Mass, Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
